Ann was drawn to the Pacific Northwest’s beautiful scenery and wild coast, and moved to Portland from Wisconsin 25 years ago. Previously a travel writer and photographer, a technical writer and business owner. Ann loves Urban Excursions and the opportunity to explore Portland while learning from and connecting with others. In her free time, she can be found exploring the outdoors with her husband and three kids.
My name is Rachel, and I hail from Bismarck, ND. I’ve been living in Portland for almost eight years, three and half of which I’ve been a medical/stroke nurse. When I’m not adventuring about with Urban Excursions, I can be found drinking a warm beverage from either the comforts of home or some newly discovered land. There are very few things that I consider greater than the opportunity to form connection with people.
My name is Megan and I’ve been a cardiac nurse at Portland Providence for the past 3 1/2 years. When I heard about Urban Excursions, I immediately knew that I wanted to be involved. I’m passionate about promoting wellness by helping older adults achieve independence, engage in social activities, and most importantly, to have fun. As a northwest native, I enjoy exploring the outdoors by hiking, camping, and snowboarding.
Adam is a native Oregonian who graduated with a Communication Studies degree from Portland State University. Two things initially drew him to Urban Excursions: his desire to explore every quirky place in his hometown, and his love of socializing with others. After he helped care for his own grandfather during hospice (he made a full recovery!), Adam came to recognize a greater connection to his elders. He considers himself lucky to have a job he loves.
My name is Sheareen and I love Urban Excursions for all the benefits it offers to everyone involved. I feel fortunate to get to spend time with so many amazing people, I learn something new every Excursion! After a decade of owning and operating three retail lifestyle boutiques in Portland and Bend, I took some time off to be a mom. My little one is now 6 and a 1st grader in a Spanish Immersion program. When I am not on an Urban Excursions outing, I can be found skateboarding, crafting, reading, skateboarding, sewing, hiking or skateboarding with my daughter; she is pure joy! I went to the University of Hawaii and have a B.A. Theatre.
My name is Nik! I’m a video production major at PCC, working towards an associates degree. My favorite part about working for Urban Excursions is knowing that on every outing, I’m helping to make my guests’ days the best I can. As a caregiver for my own grandfather who suffers from dementia, I know firsthand how important it is to maintain a high quality of life, and I bring this philosophy with me on every excursion I lead.”
Lydia is new to Portland, but not new to having a good time going on outings with seniors. She studied gerontology and art therapy in college and has her degree in Art & Psychology. Most of her career has been as an Activity/Social Service Director with nursing homes and Engaged Life Director (event planner) for independent/assisted living environments. She took some time off to care for her own parents and is now delighted to be back with seniors again, assisting with outings and learning about all that Portland area has to offer, right along with the guests of Urban Excursions! When she is not working, she is gardening, remodeling her home, listening to music and going on adventures with her dog, Rascal, in their motorhome.
I am excited to be a part of Urban Excursions and to be able to assist seniors with experiencing the wonderful, amazing and yes sometimes weird events and activities our beautiful city has to offer. I am currently in school seeking a degree in Gerontology (the study of aging) and looking forward to being a part of the positive aging movement.
When not in school or on an adventure with Urban Excursions, you will find me in the kitchen whipping up something new and hopefully tasty or out and about exploring the city with my family. We love adventure and exploring and recently spent 9 months traveling and living in Europe but like they said in The Wizard of Oz, there is no place like home, especially Oregon.
WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!! Peggy and Lisa!
